Fix-it Friday

Hey, hey, hey, all you you bloggers. It is Friday, again. And Friday means Fix-it!
First, off to a view from the hill where she links to a place where you can FLING penguins. I mean really, what could be more fun??

And next. You, yes YOU, have the opportunity to fix ME! As you all know, I have a HUGE job interview next week. I did some serious shoppage this week, one, I needed something a bit more upscale for my wardrobe, and two, I needed the confidence you get from looking your best. Now, you, my darling bloggies, get to help me figure out what I am wearing and when. Please, if you have any particular fashion advice, or reasons why I should or should NOT do something, please, please share.
Also, any interview tips would be appreciated. I am soooo naive and unschooled in these matters.
I have had some wonderful fashion tips from the only real fashionista I "know", Mrs. Figby. I was sent on a hunt yesterday by Figby for some heeled, close toed, black, pointy toe shoes. Bald Man insists that I am not a real girl because I don't like shopping for shoes. Hours were spent yesterday and even the Princess was enlisted in the shoe search. I need small heels because I just can't wear big heels anymore and the last thing I need to kill myself trying to walk in them. So kitten heels it was. I finally found them. The winners!

Macy's was having a rocking sale this week. I got 2 shirts, a dress and new dress slacks for 75$. I am so proud of my skillz!
Here are the new pieces:

New shirt:

The sleeves are sheer

Opps! That isn't a new outfit, but she is darling, isn't she??

New slacks with a subtle, shiny, pinstripe

New dress, faux wrap:

Shucks, my fingers musta slipped again!

I already own this next suit, it isn't the best cut, but I am not spending more money right now. I can wear it with either my white shirt, or a silky blue one. (I promise the blue one matches in real life)

Here are the events:
1.I get off the plane, and go to the car rental, then drive to the corporate offices. I am planning on changing at the airport and touching up my hair and actually putting on MAKE UP there. Before I go to the office. I am not really doing anything there except meeting one or two people, nothing formal, no meetings or interviews, mostly just to get my hotel arrangements.
2. Dinner either night with boss peeps.
3. Next day, is THE day. 8:45 I meet with the big boss and the corporate meeting. Interviews follow.

If none of those outfits fit your idea of what I should wear, give me suggestions. I own more clothes of course, but they aren't new. I have beige dress pants, black dress pants and some business casual shirts, and a navy blue linen blazer. I do have a briefcase I am taking with me.
So give me, 1. 2. and 3. Either what you would wear, or what you think I should wear, or pick an outfit from above.
Sheer nylons or black? And which with each outfit?

Other grooming:
I will de-fur my upper lip on either sat or sun so it is smooth and clean
Eyebrows will be cleaned up
I will shave all the regular places before I go, I don't have a great deal of body hair, so I won't need to do it on the trip again.
I will touch up my gray roots either sat or sun also.
I will be bringing and actually wearing makeup!

Anything else?? Any advice? Tips? I keep having dreams that are half anxiety and half fantasy. Excited and nervous here!

I am so not the person to give fashion advice. My regular uniform, since I work from a home office, consists of sweat pants and a t-shirt.

On a dress up day, I might be extra picky and make sure that nothing is full of holes.

Put on those shoes now and wear them around to break them in. The shoes are cute, but if you're not used to the pointy toe or the bit of a heel, oh Jo. Get used to them.

Ooooh! Fun!

Here are my opinions, for what they're worth:

1. I definitely agree, wear the shoes beforehand to break them in and scuff up the sole, so you can walk comfortably and won't slide all over the place.

2. I would do one of the sheer-sleeve shirts with slacks for initial meet-up.

3. Use your initial meeting to get a read on these folks and how formal their corporate culture is.

Ideally, you could wear the same sheer-sleeve shirt for dinner, the dress for the interview and the dress again or the other sheer-sleeve shirt for second dinner. I think the dress is really pretty and probably more flattering than the suit, and I like the versatility of the two shirts.

If they're more buttoned-up than that, you might have to do dress for dinner, suit for interview and second dinner.

4. I would wear sheer hose, because black hose always feel more wintery to me.

5. Since you say you don't wear much make-up: Practice your look beforehand. And don't feel you have to use a buncha different colors — this is something I learned from make-up people in my fashion reporting days (trust me, that is not as glamorous as it sounds) — don't buy colors to match your outfit so much as to flatter your features and your skin tone. Your make-up will be less noticeable that way, but I think that's what you want anyway, right?

BTW: I am posting a FIF later.

I LOVE the outfit with the blue circles all over it that are on a dark background. I agree with Marguerite. the shoes could be painful.

For the actual interview I'd maybe go for one of your new tops and the smart black new trousers. To me the suit you have looks a little bit dated... but then I'm still jobless so what do I know!

For the evening meal I'd definitely go for the smart wrap dress, for traveling maybe beige trousers and something smart but comfy on top. If you've just been traveling they won't be expecting you to be ultra smart.

Dang! Blogger ate my comment. Let's see if I can remember what I said:

1. Yes, break in your shoes, also so the bottoms get scuffed and you don't slide all over.

2. Wear a shirt and pinstripe pants combo for your initial trip to the office, which will look nice and allow you to assess the situation.

3. Ideally, they are not too buttoned up, and you can then get away with wearing the same shirt for dinner, the dress for the interview and then the dress again or the other shirt for the second dinner.

If they're more buttoned up, I guess the dress for dinner and the suit for the interview (i.e. bring all your options, I'd say).

4. Nude hose for this time of year, since black looks winter-y

5. Practice your make-up application before you go, since you say you don't usually wear it. The best piece of advice I ever got when I did fashion reporting (not nearly as glamorous as it sounds) is to wear make-up that complements your features and coloring, NOT your outfits. It will look a lot more subtle that way, which is what you want in this case, I think.

Oh, and I forgot to say this on my original comment so I guess it's a good thing I'm retyping: GOOD LUCK!

GREAT shoes.
The cloths look perfect.

My advice. be yourself. and you already won :)

My advice? Take lots of pictures of your loved ones with you! They are what will keep you centered and focused. Not to mention, looking at those pictures will help you if you get too nervous. And take your dragon. :)

And I agree with the previous poster...break in those cute shoes before you go!

I agree; nude hose, break in the shoes, and light on the make up especially if you don't normally wear it. You'll look great in any of these because you have a beautiful smile.

My best interview advice: Be ready to answer "Why should we hire you?", "What makes you a good fit for this company?" and all variations of "What makes you so great?"

Good luck!

I'm not good with clothes, but I do love those shoes!
I also say bring the dragon, just keep him under control. You don't want him diving into your new employer's dinner.

Also, what is it with the word verification lately? I feel like I need to wear glasses and stand on my head to read it.
