The One Where Jo Is Totally Traumatized

I don't know whether to hug or hit target="_blank">Holly. So either I blame her, or I give her total credit, but really, it is all her fault.
We were chatting the other night and I was griping that Little Man's bedroom smells like pee, but we can not find the exact source. Well, I mean we know the ultimate source, one little boy who can't be bothered to use the restroom, no kidding, less than five feet from his room. But the secondary source of WHERE he put it, that is the part we can't find.
Holly then informed me about a certain product. target="_blank">Urine Gone. It even comes with a black light so you can go all CSI on any suspected stains. In case you didn't know, or don't watch those CSI kind of shows, bodily fluids show up glowing in black light. Vomit, blood and yes, urine.
I found the kit for about 20$ at our local Shopko. I guess they sell them at Walgreens too, in the "As seen on TV" aisle.
Last night, we shut off all the lights in Little Man's room, turned on the black light and went searching. Well, we didn't have far to look. I guess the kid has peed everywhere, cause just about the whole carpet glows green. Also the closet, some of his toys and even in places, the WALL! We sprayed and sprayed the enzyme cleaner, used about half the bottle. We will have to do it again in the next day or so. Once you actually take care of the stain, it will stop glowing. I was just so seriously grossed out I could hardly stand it. I guess we will also have to address a certain young man's potty habits.
I was warned that shining the black light in the bathroom is a serious wake up call. I guess I wanted to make myself feel better, so I went into the bathroom and shined the black light of truth in there. On one hand, it made me feel better. On the other hand, NOT! Little Man's room is much, much worse than the bathroom. And that my bloggy friends is how I got totally traumatized.

I would LOVE to have one of those. I'd take it around my whole house. How fun !

I might invest. Thanks for the tip.
Oh and one more place to look. I was raised with 2 brothers and this seemed to b e a place they loved to pee....the heater vents. They would lay on them in the winter with blankets and pillows and after getting too comfortable to make their way to the bathroom...they'd just go where they were. NICE right.

Eww, ick! My heart goes out to you on this one.

I once babysat a kid (thankfully at her parents' house) who deliberately peed in all sorts of weird places.

Once she even squatted, fully clothed, and peed in the middle of the living room rug. Another time, she deliberately wet her pants, soaking her mother's very fancy sofa.

I just about died when I had to tell her mother what happened when she came home.

Oh, Jo! I'm so sorry. I had a sort of similar experience today (not nearly to the degree of yours, though). My eight-year-old nephew, Noah, has downs syndrome and still isn't potty trained. He came running inside yelling about something, very troubled. So I asked, "do you need to go potty?" "No, wet." I took him into the bathroom (this is at my parents', btw--and I don't know where they keep anything) and search for a diaper, to no avail. I ask where they are and someone says they're in the guest room. Meanwhile, Noah is pulling dirty diapers out of the garbage can. I leave Noah safely (I think) with my sister (not his mom) and run to the guest room to look for diapers. I search and search, no diapers. I call for help, no help. I finally call my mom's cel phone to ask her where the blasted diapers are. She says "I've been in town buying them, but I'm just getting home, I'll be right in." I get downstairs. Noah has changed from his wet diaper into a diaper from the garbage can (gross!). My mom comes to the rescue with clean diapers. I'm lucky because I'm not yet a mom, so I get to go home at the end of the day. I don't know how you real moms do it. It must be love.

I'm sorry this story is so blasted long. I do want to show my sympathy, though. And, hey, I was reading in your sidebar that Little Man has a VNS. Cool! I used to have one, but it didn't work for me so we turned it off.

I've wanted to get one of these for our bathroom. Chico uses the potty, but his ummm... 'aim' needs some work.

I'd probably die if I shone a blacklight on the wall behind the throne...

Ew, ew, ew, EWWWWWWW!

I remember once when my folks went away for a week and left my two older sisters (seventeen and nineteen)in charge of everyone there started to be a stench in the bathroom. It got so bad that we cleaned it top to bottom several days BEFORE the parents were due home. Still stinky. Finally someone thought to empty the trash. Yeah. One of my sleep walking brothers had ALMOST made it into the toilette.

Apparently they have germ lights, too. I hope I never see one of those in action.

Oh that is traumatic! I have one who gets up out of bed and wanders from place to place as she wets. I swear the child is a dehumidifier in human form. We don't put in nearly the amount she excretes. I am afraid of what a black light would reveal. Very afraid.

Ewwwww! But really makes me wonder what I would find if I used that little light in my kids' rooms...

Oooh I would love to have one of those! Its too bad we just got a new couch, and new carpet in Little Bear's room, because I'm certain those two places would have looked absolutely radiactive! Maybe thay would have convinced the kids to work more on their cleanliness???
You say they sell it at Walgreens? i browse the As Seen on TV aisle a lot, but i've never seen that!

Oh lord - I feel your pain. I had the same with Stress 1 - with the exception that he was sleep walking. He truly had no idea he was doing it. But for the love of all that is good and decent, it does smell after a while. Especially when you are having trouble locating the "spot(s)" and it has been going on a while. UGH!
I might have to look for that little contraption - sounds like it could be a good conversation starter (lol)

Hmm, I might have to check out that Urine Gone with the light. Ever so often I walk into a room and smell the unmistakable scent of urine. Not good.
